Frank LaVoie was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1979. As a child he lived in Florida, Connecticut, Maine, and eventually Virginia. When he wasn’t outside collecting bruises and scrapes as a kid, Frank used his time to read as much as possible.

The fantasy genre was especially intriguing and as he built his collection, he began to imagine that one day he could create his own worlds.

He earned his B.A. in English with an emphasis in Professional and Technical Writing from the Honors College at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA where he minored in the French language. At ODU, his favorite courses always involved writing. Experimenting with poetry, creative nonfiction, and the art of the short story, he found that his love of fantasy was always an impetus to create people and places that were different.

For the past decade, Frank has been teaching English and coaching wrestling at high schools in Virginia and Colorado. He made the move to the mountains at 27, seeking adventure and change. The beaches of VA and the mountains of CO both provide inspiration for his writing.

An avid traveler, he adds to these images with such exotic locales as the Amazon Rainforest, Machu Picchu, the top of the Swiss Alps, the palaces of French kings, and more.

Frank now lives at home in Colorado with his German Shepherd Atreyu and a Bernese Mountain Dog named Namaste. “Nami” makes her debut as a feature character in his first series.  He spends his time wrestling, practicing MMA (mixed martial arts), reading, traveling, and camping and hiking as much as possible.

Firesoul is Frank’s first full-length novel. The first of the five-part series Empires of Magic, Book One: Firesoul introduces readers to Frank’s style and characters in a world that he describes as an ode to epic fantasy with unique twists that he hopes the reader will find intriguing. With inspirations such as Tolkien, Brooks, Weis & Hickman, King, Sanderson, and his writing partner – Brian Wood, Frank draws from each of these muses to bring to life his own characters and new realms in the genre.

He is currently working on two projects including Empires of Magic, Book Two: Shadow Walker and his first non-fiction piece, Till the Last Heartbeat, the life story of world-class wrestler Joe Heskett, head wrestling coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point (Army).
